The Challenge
Brick House Butcher was in a soft launch phase since opening five months earlier, focusing on refining operations before fully engaging the public. With the holiday season approaching, they envisioned a grand opening event to fuel brand awareness and introduce the butcher shop’s unique offerings to the wider community beyond Falls Church City.
The primary goals:
- Create awareness that Falls Church now has a new, high-quality butcher shop.
- Attract new customers and build long-term relationships with the community.
- Promote holiday meal pre-orders.
- Position Brick House Butcher as a trusted, local source for specialty meats, culinary expertise, and exceptional service.
However, there were challenges. Falls Church hosts a popular Saturday Farmers Market, and an established competitor butcher has served as the neighborhood’s go-to for 18 years.
The Solution
As advocates for locally owned and operated specialty businesses, we set out to make the grand opening more than a standard ribbon-cutting. Leaning into the theme of community, we designed the event as a Butcher Block Party—a name that evokes both the traditional “butcher’s block” and the familiar community “block party.” This choice connected the event to both the craft of butchery and the emotional sentiment of a relaxed, neighborly gathering.
Our approach included:
- Developing a digital marketing and advertising campaign to target customers who appreciate quality products, shop local, and enjoy food and wine.
- Partnering with a local wine and beer shop to offer free wine and beer tastings paired with specialty meats prepared by the butcher. This collaboration showcased the butcher’s expertise while providing a tasting experience for attendees.
- Creating the tagline “Taste & Sip Local!” to emphasize the shop’s commitment to local, high-quality products and to connect with community pride.
Impact
The Butcher Block Party was a tremendous success, achieving and exceeding the client’s goals:
- High Attendance: The event attracted an estimated 400 attendees, exceeding the client’s goal.
- Sales and Pre-Orders: Their sales reached an all-time high; featured specialty items sold out, and holiday meal pre-orders surged, helping to build anticipation and loyalty among new customers.
- Future Event Potential: What began as a one-time event inspired the idea of making the Butcher Block Party an annual pre-holiday gathering and fall celebration, cementing Brick House Butcher as a fixture in the community.
This successful launch positioned Brick House Butcher as a trusted neighborhood butcher and laid the foundation for future community-centered events that build both brand affinity and customer loyalty.
I enjoyed working with the team at Arlington Strategy. They were very helpful in accomplishing what we needed in a short amount of time.”
