Scott Marshall is the host of the As Unexpected Podcast and President & CEO of the Institute for Shipboard Education, the nonprofit that runs Semester at Sea, the world’s leading comparative study abroad program. With a career rooted in higher education, Scott previously served as Professor of Management, Associate Dean and Interim Dean in the College of Business and Vice Provost at Portland State University. His passion for global education was sparked by a transformative study abroad experience in Japan as an undergraduate. In 2017, Scott, his wife, and their two children sailed on Semester at Sea, an experience that led him to join the organization as Vice President of Academic Affairs. He became President in 2020 and has since led the program through significant challenges, ensuring it continues to inspire and educate students as they embark on life-changing global journeys.
